Or you could title this entry, "You're taking off in 20 Minutes...Run!"
I was sitting the couch again last night from 6 pm to midnight. I had settled in with my ipod in my ears and was working on a new knitting project when the crew lounge phone rang. "Kelly....Kelly Karas!" Yep - Crew Scheduling. Someone was a no-show for her trip and they unfortunately had just realized it. It was 6:40 and the flight was leaving at 7:00 (sound familiar yet?) - and they hadn't started boarding yet! Oh happy day for the passengers! I grabbed my stuff and literally ran down to the gate for my brand new overnight trip to Houston. Good times, good times.
I am currently sitting in the hotel in Houston killing some time before our 2:30 report time. When we get back to Denver we'll do a Salt Lake turn then home around 9:00 pm tonight. Not too shabby. Plus, I get to fly with my classmate, Ashley. She's a sweetheart, and we've done a couple SLC turns together before. I was teasing her last night that SLC is now "our city."
Just have to mention, though, what a cluster f#@k the flight was! OMG, I was laughing so hard. I don't know if it was the full moon or what, but our one beverage service took us almost the entire hour and 45 minute flight. Ashley started by going through the cabin with the snack service, then we followed with the beverage cart. However, I've never had so many call buttons go off during beverages before with people changing their minds and deciding they wanted snacks after all. Plus, between the three of us we served almost all of our wine and beer and quite a few minis as well. And there were plenty, plenty, plenty of those "and-a" folks, too. Let me give you an example of just what one row of 6 people ordered: a white wine with a sprite; a Coors with a Coke; a water with an apple juice; a white wine with a sparkling water; a red wine; and a Coke. That's 10 beverages for 6 people! Multiply times 23 rows, add two pretty high maintenance UMs in the 17th row and approximately 30 spotty satellite tvs, and that equals three very busy FAs!
The good news (and you know me, I always at least try to close with some good news) is that almost no one was grumpy, just impossibly thirsty! A few folks were pretty bent at their faulty satellite service, but were understanding when we apologized and admitted there was nothing we could do to fix a signal that has problems during it's travel to space and back.
And I forgot to mention: that last red wine? I totally knocked the bottle over onto a sleeping passenger, rudely startling him out of a sound sleep. I was mortified! Luckily, although I had popped the seal on the bottle none of it spilled out, and he was very nice and understanding about the whole thing. I apologized profusely and offered to buy him something of his own for me to spill on him (just kidding, of course), but he kindly only requested a Coke. Just the one drink, sir? My pleasure...

What an impossible riot of a flight!!! You guys sure earned your Houston layover. And I love flying with Ms. Ashley!
Our couch sit was very uneventful - towards the end one of my friends on the Leadership Council told me the things that are in the works for the reserves. It was a good sit, but I'm still on for three more days, so I think I'll be seeing DIA again soon!
