Because I've been on call for 2 1/2 days now and haven't heard from Crew Scheduling - not once. It's so weird, not that I'm complaining. I love being home with the family and all that, it's just that this is an unheard of occurrence for me. If, by some miracle, I haven't heard from them by 6 pm tonight I can call them and ask to be released to my days off. Of course, now that I've publicly posted this on the world wide web, I've jinxed it for sure and any minute now my phone will ring and I'll be assigned that 6 pm Sacramento turn I love so very, very much. But that's cool, that's cool. I'll do it with a smile and say, "Thank you, ma'am!"
In the meantime, I think I'll finally get to all those house cleaning duties I've been neglecting for the past two days, hating to get into something only to anticipate being interrupted mid-task.
Speaking of, and I was, I never knew til I started this job how superstitious flight attendants are! We dare not mention how smoothly a flight is going lest we bring about some mechanical or medical emergency with our reckless comment. We also don't thoughtlessly say, "Ya know? I haven't had a medical emergency for months," cuz that's the very moment some poor slob will keel over with a heart attack or something and it will be ALL......OUR.....FAULT.
Sooooo....having committed the sin of saying aloud that I haven't heard from Crew Scheduling, I must now do the anti-hex dance, sprinkle salt over my shoulder, turn in a circle 3 times while reciting my company's mission statement and drop to my knees and pray for the boogey man to overlook me this one time - or else my phone is going to ring any min......
Wait.....do you hear that? Is that my cell?!
